I've been watching thespook_me ficathon for years, and never quite had the right focus at the right time to participate. This time I did, and it was a blast. I don't think I would've written anything this creepy without some kind of push, and spook_me was perfect--just the right blend of "here's something to write about" and "... but don't let that box you in."
