Given the input from the community, I've made a Modly Decision (er, subject to change should a majority of the people on-list should disagree with me.) The Vorkosiverse reread is on.

To participate, you all should just reread the Vorkosiverse. ;) There will then be discussion posts on the community for each book on the following dates. I've tried to give plenty of time - 10 or 15 days - between each book, and since each book is a novella (and not the omnibus versions), it shouldn't be completely impossible to follow along, reading as we go. The discussion topics will remain open indefinitely. I'll start us with a couple of my own thoughts and questions, or if someone wants to volunteer to run the discussion of a particular book, by all means be my guest!

I have placed Ethan of Athos and Falling Free at the end of the series because they are not directly in-line with the other stories. Also, some people have mentioned trouble finding Falling Free and I'd like to give them more time to get their hands on it if possible.

May 15: Shards of Honor
June 1: Barrayar
June 15: The Warrior's Apprentice & "The Mountains of Mourning"
July 1: The Vor Game
July 15: Cetaganda and "Labyrinth"
August 1: "Borders of Infinity" and Brothers in Arms
August 15: Mirror Dance
September 1: Memory
September 15: Komarr
October 1: A Civil Campaign and "Winterfair Gifts"
October 15: Diplomatic Immunity
November 1: Ethan of Athos
November 15: Falling Free

If anyone is having trouble getting their hands on these books, you could try searching for one of the omnibus editions. Below the cut I have listed the omnibus editions and which stories are included in each, for your convenience:

Cordelia's Honor contains Shards of Honor and Barrayar.
Young Miles contains The Warrior's Apprentice, "The Mountains of Mourning" and The Vor Game.
Miles, Mystery & Mayhem contains Cetaganda, Ethan of Athos and "Labyrinth."
Miles Errant contains "The Borders of Infinity," Brothers in Arms, and Mirror Dance.
Miles, Mutants & Microbes contains Falling Free, "Labyrinth" (again), and Diplomatic Immunity.
Miles in Love contains Komarr, A Civil Campaign and "Winterfair Gifts."

Thus, you can see that only Memory has not been published as part of an omnibus, and that "Labyrinth" has been published in two omnibuses (Miles, Mystery & Mayhem and Miles, Mutants & Microbes).

These books are all available as eBooks, apparently, from Baen, for a fee; also, "The Mountains of Mourning" is available free online, and the Bujold nexus maintains a list of excerpts from Bujold books that may be read for free online as well.

If anybody can't get their hands on the books at all, and is okay with pdf e-books and sharing, they can pm me and maybe I can fix that. ;)

Diplomatic Immunity before Memory & Komarr? Is this reading in publication order, except Athos & Falling?

I originally read them in story-chrono order (except for Falling Free, which I read just before Diplomatic Immunity).

Eee, I am so excited about this. I can't wait! Yay, Vorkosigan re-reading! And I should be less totally swamped by work in Mid-May, as well. (Shards of Honor and Barrayar are my favouritest Vorkosiverse books (I like them all, hence the silly superlative), along with Memory and, hmm, parts of The Vor Game and Cetaganda. I think it's partly that they were the first ones I encountered, partly that I don't like Mark (sorry Mark, but you're annoying!) and partly my deep fondness for Aral. Oh, Aral. :-)

Wheee.

[Plus, my mental canon kind of goes off-track with Memory, and into ADS-verse territory. Oops.]

But, wheee, an excuse to re-read Vorkosiverse! YAY!

Count me in on the re-read

Really looking forward to it. I reread the series about three years ago, so I'm due.

Also, I see I have until September to figure out where I put A Civil Campaign. I set it aside so I would be able to find it, of course.
