The sun has dwindled and Father Frost welcomes you once again to Barrayar...
Seed Prompt submission is now OPEN for the Winterfair Open Exchange
Seed Prompt Guidelines:
*You do not need to commit to writing a fic to submit a prompt. Please submit only one seed prompt.
*Because of the nature of the exchange, we ask that seed prompts not be crossovers. Prompts earned during the exchange can be crossovers (or about other Bujold works).
*Ask for what you want in your prompt, not for what you don't want. Even if the resulting fic isn't exactly to your taste, there should be enough fic to make everyone happy. :)
*Do ask for what you want, though. The point of this exchange is to maximize happiness. Feel free to ask for the unusual and novel.
*You don't need to have an LJ account to participate or post fic, but please leave a name with your prompt. Winterfair information posts will be mirrored on the vorkosigan dreamwidth community for ficcers here and in case of technical difficulties on Livejournal.
Rules:
Open Exchange:
The concept behind this exchange is that everyone who writes a Vorkosigan fic for someone else's prompt by Jan 31st will get a Vorkosigan fic on one of their own prompts in return.
Anyone Can Participate:
You don't need to commit to writing anything to submit a prompt. Everyone can submit one seed prompt initially. If you want to submit more than one prompt, write a fic for us! You can submit an extra prompt for every fic you write. You can enter the exchange after seed prompting is closed by writing a fic first and -then- submitting a prompt.
Write What You Want:
You aren't assigned a prompt. You can choose to write any prompt from the list of all prompts. The list may include both prompts in your own language and prompts translated from the other language.
Multilingual:
While we are slightly less multilingual than last year, we accept seed prompts in Russian and can translate a limited number of fics. Please contact me if you want to submit a fic in Russian. The Russian ficathon is running in parallel to us this year.
Fanart:
The exchange accepts fanart as an alternative to fic. People who produce fanart for the exchange will also be eligible to receive fic or fanart in return.
No Minimum Wordcount:
Write whatever length fic you want. Drabbles are fine. This exchange is designed to encourage shorter form fic, but if you want to write a novel, that's fine too :) However, if you're submitting fic in Russian please try to keep it under 3000 words for the translators' sanity.
Every Fic Is A Gift to Everyone:
Hopefully, lots of fic will be written. The rules of this exchange are designed so that the maximum number of people get a fic written for them. But remember, every fic that gets written is for you, too, and everything you write is for the fandom as well as your recipient. The important thing is that everyone has fun. :)
Deadlines:
Invitations to the Ball (Prompt Submission): December 16 - December 31
I'll be keeping a running tally, so people can start writing quickly.
You can submit prompts after this date if you write a fic for an existing prompt first.
Dance 'til Midnight (First Round Posting): January 1 - January 31
Post any time within this window. Posting is non-anonymous, and you can write as many fics as you want. In fact, we encourage it. You don't need to claim prompts in advance. Multiple fics on one prompt are fine, as are multiple prompts in one fic. The long posting period is to encourage latecomers and hopefully build exchange momentum. As soon as you post a fic, you can submit a new prompt to the list.
Drunken Vor Crawling Races (Pinch-hits): February 1 - February 21
The second round is to fulfill prompts for people who wrote in the first round but did not receive a fic in return. Because we average more than one fic per writer, this should be a limited number.
