Two odd fics

If you're waiting impatiently for Yuletide to go up, may I offer two odd (and kind-of Vorkosigan, but please read the notes!) pieces inspired by one of last year's Yuletide stories?

lannamichaels  wrote a wonderful modern-AU crackfic called Barrayar Expects That Every Fan Will Do Their Duty: Excerpts From A Fandom, in which the characters of the Vorkosigan Saga are fans of a TV show (with occasional movies) called Barrayar. A number of the commenters said they'd like to read some of the Barrayar fic (and slash) she described. I agreed, and hoped someone would write it--but not me, because it's not the sort of thing I write. That was, of course, tempting the gods; five weeks later I started coming down with a story.

This is a slash episode tag for a TV show that doesn't exist, which should be all you need to know to read it. (Well, that and there are some warnings in the tags and end-notes on A03 and in the header on my journal; please heed them!)

I trust these are Vorkosigan-ly enough to warrant posting here, even if they're, ah, second-order derivatives!  ("The Wrong Ground To Hold" acutally has two Vorkosigan-verse easter eggs for the attentive reader...because I could, that's why.)

Hm, must go back and seek the Easter eggs! Yep, I've fallen deep enough down this here rabbit hole that I'll happily read about any fool soldier with a "Vor" in front of his name. Also: obsessive loyalty, poorly suppressed homoeroticism, and lack of concern for one's own physical safety? Yes, I vote that we should pull the velvet rope aside and let them in.

Having written the things, I have absolutely no grounds for judging anyone else on their, erm, relative location in the rabbit hole!

And please do let me know if you spot the easter eggs (or want hints, or don't spot them...they're both fairly subtle and I'm quite curious to see if they'll register for eyes that aren't mine.)
